Explorer Dan (ED) spends the first 5-10 minutes meeting and greeting the kids, writing names on stickers etc. and then gathers them round to explain why they’re there: mainly for the birthday child but also to help retrieve the Golden Coat that was once worn by the Great Duke of India. To do this, he tells them that ancient legend says he needs a team of young explorers to go in search of the Magic Explorer Sweets that have been hidden by the evil explorer thief, Ferocious Frank. He also tells them that he doesn’t steal ancient artefacts, but rescues them from thieves to sell to the British Museum for everyone to see. Before he tells them all the story of how this coat was stolen by him and before they embark on their adventure, ED runs some warm up games: running on the spot, star jumps etc. and some original Nutty’s drama type games followed by some singing and then he tells them the story. ED tells them how he flew in his plane from London to India with his fellow explorers, fought their way through thick jungle and then found an old house where the coat was. He then explains how he finds the coat and how Ferocious Frank steals it and explains the only way he can get it back is by using a map, hidden among a pack of his own sleeping tigers, to find the sweets. They then act out finding the map and use the map to find the sweets! They imagine walking through the jungle, climbing a mountain, rescuing the jungle creepy crawlies (via a jelly pot!) and many more activities, following the clues along the way until they find the sweets! They all get one each. This then marks the end of the one hour option or the break for 2 hours (which is 25-30 minutes long). Then ED can help bring the cake out and sing Happy Birthday and then it’s party games time. Games include: Explorer Dan’s Coming (like Captain’s Coming), Grandma’s Footsteps and ending with Musical Statues where ED hands out some sticker and sweet prizes and a prize for the birthday child (which is usually a gold medal).
