Top tips for outdoor parties in parks

The days are getting longer, the sun is shining and, look, people are actually smiling and in a good mood!

All hail the great British Springtime and soon, summer.

And as a result of the good weather, here at Nutty’s Towers, we’re getting an increased level of bookings for outdoor parties in public parks.

We love working outdoors, when the weather is kind of course. We get to work on our tans (lol) and intake of vitamin D (much needed after the long, cold, dark winter). It’s also great for the kids, as it’s so good for them to feel free and really let rip, away from the confines of a church hall or living room.

But! Working outdoors has its own set of problems.

It’s not a private space, there are other members of the public close by, there could be dogs wondering in trying to steal the party food and usually you have no set perimeters to keep the kids close at hand. Once, many years ago, I (Danny) ran a party in a park in Wimbledon and nearly lost my voice countless times trying to get some of the over zealous kids from running too far away!

So, help is at hand to ensure your al fresco party is a big success.

1) Pick a spot where you are close to the edge of the park, rather than slap bang in the middle of a large, open space. This way, you can all be close together and it’s easier for us to keep them contained too.

2) We love the sun, but find somewhere that has shade! Not only is this good for food and drinks, but also, if it’s really hot, the kids (and us!) will get worn out too soon.

3) Avoid any extra distractions like bouncy castles. These inflatable good times zones are a huge hit with kids. Especially outdoors. But having one alongside us is a huge distraction and the kids will just not be able to focus fully. Let us take care of the entertainment!

4) Have a back up plan in case of rain! How many times have we in life set up for a picnic relying on the ‘good’ weather forecast, only to be hit with a sudden, torrential downpour? And no one like soggy sandwiches. So, make sure you have a large gazebo so there is some kind of cover, just in case.

5) Make sure there are public toilets nearby. Not only will most of the kids need to use one at some point, we also need somewhere to get changed!

Whatever your party is, with us or without, I hope these tips help you to have a wonderful, stress free time.
